Voodoo Rules acquires license to the song Whoodoo Voodoo by rocker and guitar virtuoso CJ McClellan. The song is from CJ McClellan’s recently released CD – Shades of Revolution published by Brother Zombie Records.

According to a spokesperson for VoodooRules.com, portions of the song will be used in a Special Limited Edition of Voodoo Rules Game scheduled for release in Late September. The Voodoo Rules Team is working with Famed Voodoo Artist – dholl and CJ McClellan to create the special edition in time for Halloween. In addition to the special edition of the App/Game, the team is also producing a video that combines live footage from the new app, artwork from dholl, and the full soundtrack of the newly licensed song Whoodoo Voodoo!
CJ McClellan has been described of as the best musician you’ve never heard of… his guitar-fueled rock tracks include hits like Whoodoo Voodoo, Redemption, and Running From Zombies. With titles like that, he’s seems like a perfect fit for Voodoo Rules, but there’s way more to it than the serendipitous naming. CJ has an incredible sense of melody and a knack for creating unforgettable hooks that capture and hold the listener’s attention long after the music’s stopped. There’s a raw gritty edge to his sound. That raw edge, coupled with influences and undertones from rock idols like Lenny Kravitz, Zakk Wylde, and Alice in Chains make for music that is unlike anything you’ve ever heard before.
The special limited edition of Voodoo Rules will give the purchaser of the App live links to iTunes, Amazon, and other outlets that carry the songs used in the Soundtrack for the special edition. Purchasers of the full edition of Voodoo Rules Available from the App Store will be entitled to a free upgrade to the limited edition.

In a surprise move, Apple released the Full Version of Voodoo Rules to the App Store within two days of the Appeal filing.

Background:
Both the full version and the lite versions of the Voodoo Rules Apps were initially censored by an Apple reviewer. The reviewer felt that the graphics and sound effects were a little too realistic to be released to the App Store. Upon receiving the news, the VoodooRules.com architect, Joe Moniz, decided upon a two pronged strategy.
Prong One: They made no changes to the Lite version of the App and sent it through the Apple Appeals process. This was because the team believed that the app was unfairly censored, and there was very little financial risk in pursuing this tack with the Lite (Free) version.
Prong Two: The second prong was designed to appease the reviewer and hopefully get the app in front of the people so they could decide for themselves whether or not the app was too realistic. So, while the appeal process was underway for the Lite App/Game, the team made minor changes to the Full version. Specifically, they changed some of the sound effects and incorporated some image processing capabilities into the App designed to convert the photo of a person into a more cartoon-like representation.
In a little under two weeks, the team completed the changes to the Full version, incremented the version number appropriately, and resubmitted the app through normal channels without going through the Appeals process.
While the team was waiting for the results, they received an announcement from Apple’s App Review Appeal Board that the Lite App had been approved for release to the store unchanged.
Within a day of this announcement, the team also learned that even with the changes, an Apple reviewer found that censorship was in order – this time stating that customizing the Voodoo Doll with a photo – even one that had been processed to look like a cartoon was too realistic.
The team decided to send the revised Full version of App to Apple Appeals board; they expected another two week turnaround time and hoped for another favorable response from the Appeals board. In a move that surprised everyone, Apple’s Appeals board approved the app for release to the App Store within 2 business days.
When asked about the entire process, the architect Joe Moniz stated: “I always had faith that Apple was a great company. Honestly, it makes me very proud to be associated with a company who had the forethought to put the appeals process in place… It just seems like a very Steve Jobs thing to do. It feels like we’re dealing with the people who envisioned and created the iPhone and that’s why we’re here in the first place. The whole team is thrilled and proud to be working with such a great visionary company. We did have a little setback with the reviewer, but Apple’s processes work! Our only problem now is that we expected a two week turnaround and are quite unprepared for the sudden release. That” he paused for effect, “is a good problem to have”

Voodoo Rules announces that Apple has released Voodoo Rules Lite to the App Store.

The App/Game has been held up for several weeks due to some censorship issues. One or more of the Apple reviewers objected to the Game on the grounds that it depicted realistic violence. In the Lite version of the App, that claim was primarily based on the sound effects. According to the reviewer, the Voodoo Doll made screaming or grunting noises when it was injured during the game.
VoodooRules.com filed a request to the App Review Board in an effort to get Apple to release the game with its original sound effects and graphics.
During the Appeal, Apple’s review board agreed to release the Voodoo Rules Lite Game to the App Store as it was originally written. The architect who lead the technical portion of the Voodoo Rules App design and development, Joe Moniz, was said: “The delay was a tough break for the team, but I always had faith that Apple would do the right thing.” When asked to comment on the release date of the full version of the App Voodoo Rules, he said that “all I can say is that the full version is currently in the appeal process and I can’t comment on it while it is being appealed.”
The App Name in the App store is all one word and is spelled: VoodooRulesLite. Here’s a picture of the Splash Screen with the Witch Doctor proudly plastered on the front!

Voodoo Rules releases grunge pop promo video to support iPhone app which is scheduled for release Aug 3rd 2011. The video is a fast paced 33 seconds of what looks like stop motion video reminiscent of claymation without the clay. The grunge pop video is constructed around a short tune called Rockin It by an artist from Honduras named Dashi Tai who describes the song as having a “modern upbeat rock track that reminded me of a sound track in a college party movie.” He went on to say that “It’s energetic pop feel combined with distorted guitar riffs give it a strong rhythmic feel.”
